Fresno shooting suspect arrested after crashing into a tree during car chase, police say

A short car chase ended early Sunday in Sanger when a Fresno man wanted on multiple felony charges crashed into a tree, the Sanger Police Department reported.

Mark Leon Perez, 33, was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of multiple allegations, including evading arrest and possession of a firearm by a felon or narcotic drug user.

Sanger police attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Academy Road around 2:30 a.m. After a short pursuit, the car slammed into a tree at Oatman and Jensen avenues. Perez attempted to flee the scene, according to a report from the Sanger Police, but was quickly apprehended.
