CLEVELAND — The Newburgh Heights Police Department is thanking those who assisted an officer after he was involved in a rollover crash during a pursuit Sunday morning.

Police say Officer Robert Veverka was trying to catch up to a traffic offender and lost control after hitting a patch of ice. The cruiser struck a parked vehicle and rolled several times before coming to a stop in a yard on Independence Road in Cleveland.

Several people nearby came to Veverka’s aid and helped him out of the vehicle before responders arrived. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was discharged later Sunday afternoon.
